Above:
Dick Kay and Dick Nixon, the night of February 5th, 1968. Nixon
had announced his presidential candidacy in New York on February
1st. Four days later he granted his first one-on-one television
interview in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Dick Kay, then news director
of WFRV television. The interview was broadcast live in prime
time---which meant the pre-emption of one of the more popular
television programs of the day. That turns out to be the subject
of the brief clip that fans of Richard Nixon and/or Dick Kay can
access below.
A few months after this interview, Dick Kay became a newswriter
at WMAQ-TV in Chicago. In November, Dick Nixon became President
of the United States.
